Cestrum Construction builds with a simple rule: wood is not part of our proposals, price lists or vendor network. We supply it only when a client specifically prefers it. In its place we specify durable, low-maintenance alternatives such as UPVC and aluminium frames, steel and fibre-cement products, tile and stone finishes, and lower-carbon masonry. The aim is a building that lasts longer, needs less upkeep and places less pressure on forests.
Construction is one of the largest consumers of natural resources. Responsible building does not mean expensive experiments; it means making sensible material and design choices at the planning stage, when they cost least. Cestrum's approach rests on four ideas.
Build to last. The most sustainable building is the one that does not need rebuilding. That is why we follow IS standards and insist on material quality checks (see [link: Quality Check of Material Received on Site, Article 5]).
Use fewer virgin resources. Choose materials made with industrial by-products, recycled content or abundant raw materials.
Design for the climate. Orientation, ventilation, shading and insulation cut energy use for the whole life of the building.
Keep forests standing. Replace timber wherever a durable non-wood option performs as well or better.
Our proposals, price lists and vendor contacts are wood-free by default. This is a company decision, not a limit on client choice: if a client asks for timber for a particular element, we will supply it on request. By making the non-wood option the standard, owners see the alternative first, and most find it performs well.
Practical reasons also favour non-wood materials in Uttar Pradesh conditions:
Termites and moisture: timber needs treatment and regular maintenance; UPVC, aluminium and steel do not rot or attract termites.
Monsoon and humidity: swelling, warping and paint failure are common with timber doors and frames.
Fire performance: steel, fibre-cement and gypsum-based products are non-combustible or fire-resistant.
Lifecycle cost: a higher first cost in some items is often recovered through lower repainting, polishing and replacement.
Non-wood and sustainable options we recommend
Product availability and brands vary.
Orientation and openings: place large openings away from harsh western sun; use cross-ventilation to reduce fan and AC load.
Shading: chajjas, louvres and deeper sunshades reduce heat gain.
Insulated roof and walls: AAC masonry and roof coatings reduce indoor temperature.
Solar-ready design: provide roof space and conduit during construction, so installation later is cheap and neat. See our supply capability for [link: solar installation equipment].
Water: rainwater harvesting pits, efficient fixtures and proper waterproofing prevent leakage and wastage.
Site waste: accurate bar-bending schedules, reuse of shuttering and controlled concrete ordering reduce wastage.
Some wood-free and energy-saving items cost more at the start; others, such as AAC blocks and PPC cement, can reduce cost through faster work and lighter structure. Our fixed packages remain the starting point: Basic at ₹1,600, Brand at ₹1,800 and Interior at ₹2,000 per sq ft (see: Construction Cost per Sq Ft in UP, 2026.) Upgrades such as solar or specialized glazing are priced against your drawings.
From turnkey homes such as the Designer Villa in Gorakhpur to government works under CPWD and departmental supervision, our specifications follow IS standards and documented procurement.
Does Cestrum use wood in construction?
Our proposals, price lists and vendor contacts are wood-free by default. We supply timber only when a client specifically prefers it for a particular element.
What can replace wood for doors and windows?
UPVC and aluminium frames are the most common replacements for window and door frames. They resist termites, moisture and warping. Steel, FRP or PVC shutters can replace timber door leaves.
Are AAC blocks better than clay bricks?
AAC blocks are lighter, insulate better and allow faster construction. Suitability depends on the structure and design, which is why we confirm the choice against the drawings.
Is sustainable construction more expensive in India?
Not always. Some items cost more initially, while others reduce structure weight, work time or energy bills. Total lifecycle cost is usually the better comparison.
Can I still ask for wooden elements?
Yes. Our wood-free approach is a default, not a restriction. If you prefer timber for a specific item, tell us and we will source it.
Tell us your plot size and priorities and we will prepare a wood-free, fixed-price specification. Call +91 72-750-732-72, email shreyansh@cestrumconstruction.in or visit https://www.cestrumconstruction.in.
